Nicola Maree, founder and owner of Po10chil, completed a B.Ed. Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) as well as a B.Ed. Honours in Learning Support. She is currently enrolled for a Master’s Degree in Play Therapy trough PTI (Play Therapy International).
Although she always envisioned herself as being a Remedial Therapist, it was only after gaining teaching experience that the opportunity presented itself to start a practice that specializes in Learning Support (Remedial Education), and Po10chil was born. After a few years of practicing as a Remedial Therapist, she realised that academic challenges usually go hand in hand with emotional battles. Her daughter needed Play Therapy when she was four years old and when Nicola accompanied her into the playroom, she knew what the next step was – to become a fully qualified Play Therapist. Her journey began in 2016 where she enrolled for her master’s degree.
As a devout Christian, Nicola views her occupation as a Remedial – and Play Therapist, not merely as a job, but as a calling. She finds joy and fulfillment in assisting children to overcome learning difficulties in order to reach their full potential. Not only does she give therapy, but also prays for each and every child, parent and care giver whom she works with, or encounters.
When asked what her goals are, she responds:
“The holistic development of the young child is very important to me. For this reason, it is not only crucial to focus on a child’s knowledge and skills, but also to instil healthy values, so that the child is equipped to make morally sound choices. As a Remedial Therapist and almost a qualified Play Therapist, it is of the utmost importance that every child leaves my practise with a strong sense of self value and a belief in his or her abilities. I therefore treat every child with love and respect and ensure a safe emotional environment for them, by showing love and unconditional acceptance. A warm atmosphere is created where they can experience the freedom to learn and develop, without a fear of making mistakes”
Po10chil was operational for only eight years when Nicola took a step-in faith and decided to sell Franchises even though it was difficult to share her unique invention. After only four months, in March 2019, Po10chil’s first Franchise was sold. God’s promises to Nicola became a reality. She believes that God wants to “enlarge her territory” and that she on her own won’t be able to fulfil His dream for Po10chil. She likes to refer to the phrase “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.
Nicola’s favourite verse and all-time encouragement: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” – Philippians 4:13
